Professional NCLEX-RN Remediation Course

Herzing University is the first nursing school and only the second organization in Central Florida to be approved by the state Board of Nursing to provide this remediation course.

Course Description

This course is designed for RN’s who have failed the NCLEX three or more times. The Florida Board of Nursing has since expanded the Remedial Course for Nurses who have let their license lapse. New graduates from an RN program seeking a review course may also attend. The RN Review/Remediation Course combines both theory and clinical experience to assist the student in applying the nursing process and essential skills to clients experiencing alterations in their health status.

The focus of the course will be a review of standard curricula for nursing programs including universal principles of nursing care management, legal and ethical issues, maternal child and pediatric nursing, psychiatric and mental health nursing, pharmacology, adult health and critical care. The course reviews the structure and scoring of the NCLEX-RN, as well as suggestions for preparation and test taking strategies. Clinical emphasis is placed on the management of clients in a medical/surgical acute care setting. This course complies with Florida Board of Nursing approved remedial courses.

**Evaluative testing will be incorporated to determine strengths and weaknesses.

Lecture

  • Lecture – 2 Days a week for 8 weeks

  2. Strategies for Success (How to prepare for the NCLEX)
  3. Management of Nursing Care
  4. Professional Issues
  5. Care of the Adult Health and Critical Care
  6. Maternal Child Nursing
  7. Pediatric Nursing
  8. Psychiatric Nursing
  9. Pharmacology Review

Clinical Practicum

A total of 96 hours will be completed following completion of Lecture/Skills Lab as pass/fail.

Grading

The course will be graded on a pass/fail basis (based on 76% as the minimum passing grade. There are three components, each of which must be completed with a passing score in order for the student to earn credit for the course. They are:

  1. For the Didactic portion: 7 Exams - 70% of grade (10% each exam)
  2. Completion of Practice Questions – 30% of grade
  3. Skills Lab/Clinical Practicum: Graded by Pass/Fail
  4. Comprehensive NCLEX-style Mock Exam is only applicable for students who have not yet passed the NCLEX-RN
