Toledo Financial Aid

Funding your education can be confusing, especially for a first-time college student. That’s why at Herzing, we are here to help you through the process, and advise you every step of the way.

We’ll make it easy to understand by creating a financial plan that’s designed specifically for your needs, which will include federal student loans and grants, scholarships, tuition reimbursement, and/or any other types of aid for which you qualify.

To start the financial aid process, you will want to complete the four steps listed below. If you have any questions at all, call our Financial Aid department at (419) 776-0300. We’re here to help!

Steps to Becoming Financial Aid Ready

Get Pin Number

  • A PIN is a 4-digit number that is used in combination with your Social Security Number, name, and date of birth to identify you as having the right to access your own personal information on Federal Student Aid Web sites.
  • Go to www.pin.ed.gov
    • If you already have a pin and can’t remember it, go to Request a Duplicate PIN.
    • If you have never created a pin and need to make one, go to Apply for a PIN.
  • You will use your PIN every year you apply for Financial Aid so try to remember your PIN or write it down in a secure location.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • You can complete a FAFSA by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Before you try to complete your FAFSA you will need to locate a copy of your taxes, your spouse’s taxes if you are married, and your parent’s taxes if you are a dependent.
    • If you cannot locate your taxes you can request Tax Transcripts from the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
  • If you have any questions on how to complete the FAFSA you can go to www.studentaid.ed.gov or call 1-800-433-3243
  • Please enter Herzing University’s School Code at the end of the FAFSA: 009621
  • Print off a copy of the completed FAFSA to bring to your Financial Aid meeting.

Complete Entrance Counseling

  • Before any school can disburse your Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized or unsubsidized), regulations require that you complete an entrance counseling session. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans, both during and after college.
  • Go to https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action
  • Be sure to read all of the information carefully, as this is information you will be quizzed on. You must answer 12 out of 15 quiz questions correctly to pass. This may mean you will need to retake the quiz until 12 out of the 15 questions can be answered correctly. Once you pass the quiz, click Proceed.
  • To Select Herzing University Toledo Campus as your school, click on the “Add a School” button in Step Three.
    • If you type in “Herzing”, a number of locations will pull up. Select the Herzing University Online Campus-Madison, WI. Please be sure to select the proper school, or it will not appear in our records that the Entrance Counseling has been completed.
  • Print or save the confirmation page for your records.

Complete the Master Promissory Note

  • The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is your agreement to pay back any student loans taken out on your behalf.
  • You will need your PIN number to complete the MPN.
  • Please go to: https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action and click on the “Sign In”. Enter your personal information, click on “Sign In”, verify that your information is correct, then provide your email address. Click on “Complete Master Promissory Note” then click on “Subsidized/Unsubsidized”. Print the confirmation page for your records.
